The Graduating The Poor (GTP) project aims to support the poorest of the poor population in the Poonakary Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) of Kilinochchi District. GTP Poonakary is being funded by Palmera Projects, Australia and facilitated by SLCDF. SLCDF facilitated the project by partnering with the Local NGOs in Poonakary DSD. It commenced in September 2020 and will be concluded in 2025 September. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown in Sri Lanka, the project was delayed. Five Grama Niladhari Divisions in Poonakary DS Division were filtered, and 97 families selected are being supported under this project. Most of these families could not afford beyond one meal a day. They lacked livelihoods and are severely affected by the ongoing economic crisis in the country. The objectives of this project are to assist the Vulnerable population, provide them with consumption support, Training for home gardening, Basic facilities and support for Health, Education, Psychosocial guidance, social integration support and Livelihood support. Currently, 23 Families have received Consumption Support. 97 participantsâ?? Homes were visited by field staff of this project to understand their needs and their living conditions. Seventy families have started keeping Family Development Plans (FDP) Book records. Basic counselling was provided to 15 families with Mental Health problems. Family members of the 20 families participated in the 1st training on Goat Rearing. The construction of 15 Goat Shelters was completed through the joint efforts of beneficiaries and the construction of 5 Goat Shelters has also been initiated by them. Stakeholder inactivity was the major challenge faced in this project. This delay to has caused and affected the quality of the project.
